Alumni
Along more than 35 years of existence, first through the Master's degree and then with the Doctorate, the Program has achieved significant results through the success of its graduates. The training provided by PPGDSTU enables the qualification of professionals who act as multipliers of the knowledge acquired in the three pilaras fo public education: teaching, research and extension. Program alumni are developing activities in several institutions, both in Brazil and other countries, especially those located at the Pan-Amazonia region such as in Colombia, Venezuela, Peru, Bolivia and Ecuador, as some of the students are from these countries. Thus, the contributions of PPGDSTU to the construction of an academic space in the Amazon are widely visible, granting the Program recognition and leadership, as well as relative ease at organizing national and international research networks.
The influence of research conducted in the Program in other institutions also occurs through the presence of alumni teaching in several public institutions in other states of the federation. The institutions where NAEA graduates work as professors or researchers are: EMBRAPA, UFRA, UFMA and UEMA (28 graduates), UNIFAP (10 graduates, two of these have held the Research Rector's Office of this University and one occupies since 2011 the rector of UEAP), UFOPA (18 graduates at masters and doctoral level); in Rondônia, there was DINTER with UNIR (15 graduates); (one egress), UFRN (one egress), UFRM (one egress), UFMT (two egresses), UFRN (one egress). By 2014 and in the UFPA itself, 42 Masters and Doctorate graduates were teaching staff of the institution; in that year, one alunmus of the PDTU composed the faculty of this University, two graduates of PLADES (being a doctorate of the PDTU). In 2017, the Program reached a total of 664 graduates since its inception.
Many graduates of the PPGDSTU have taken up Public Exams in the Universities and Federal Institutes of the Amazon region, having been approved, which increased the insertion of the Program in higher education in the Amazon. They also hold positions in Research Institutes (Goeldi Museum), and private HEIs, in the Amazon and in other regions of Brazil. Several graduates from Pan-Amazon countries have returned to their places of origin and now also work in universities, research centers and government agencies. Among the students, some stand out in the creation of research groups and in the nucleation of new post-graduations. Maurílio de Abreu Monteiro, former student is Rector of UNIFESSPA, and former student Raimunda Monteiro is Dean of UFOPA.
Former student Edmilson Rodrigues was mayor of Belém / PA for two terms and is currently a Federal Deputy.
Scientific Production
The faculty of PPGDSTU has significant scientific production through the frequent publication of books and chapters, some of which have been published by the university publisher NAEA / UFPA, publishers of other higher education institutions and also national and international commercial publishers. In addition, many faculty members are part of the editorial committees of national and international journals, among which the Asia Pacific Journal of Management; Papers in Regional Science; Acta Amazonica; Chelonian Conservation and Biology; Biological Conservation; Herpetologica (Austin, TX); International Political Science Review; Environment and Water - An Interdisciplinary Journal of Applied Sciences; Cuadernos de Geografia; Natural Hazards and Earth System Sciences; Lusófona Magazine of Cultural Studies (Portugal) and Mundo Agrario Magazine (National University of La Plata - UNLP, Argentina). Some professors were granted with the CNPq Research Productivity, reinforcing not only the quality of the researchers who are part of the teaching staff, but also the work developed by the program in the Amazonian context.
